Trip Itinerary

Upon arrival at Kigoma Airport, you will be met by our representative and transferred to a local restaurant for a delicious hot lunch. After lunch, you will proceed directly to the port to board a boat destined for Gombe National Park. The scenic boat ride across Lake Tanganyika offers stunning views. Upon arrival at Gombe, you will check in to your accommodation at Kasekela Suite tent and Special tent. Take some time to settle in and enjoy the tranquil surroundings. You can take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of Lake Tanganyika. In the evening, you will enjoy dinner at the camp, followed by a briefing from your guide about the park rules, chimpanzee trekking guidelines, and the activities planned for the following days. Overnight stay at Kasekela Suite tent and Special tent.

After an early breakfast, you will embark on your first chimpanzee trekking adventure in the lush forests of Gombe. Your experienced guide will lead you through the trails, sharing their knowledge of the forest ecosystem and helping you locate the chimpanzee families. Enjoy the incredible opportunity to observe these fascinating primates up close, witnessing their daily routines, social interactions, and unique personalities. During your trek, you'll also have the chance to encounter other primate species inhabiting the park, such as baboons, Red Columbus monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, hybrids, and blue monkeys. You will also take a guided walk to the feeding station, where chimpanzees are sometimes observed, and continue to the beautiful Kakombe Waterfall and the scenic viewpoint at Jane's Peak, offering panoramic vistas of the park and Lake Tanganyika. Return to the camp for a hot lunch and some leisure time to relax and rejuvenate. In the afternoon, you will have the option for another chimpanzee trekking excursion, providing further opportunities for observation and photography. After your afternoon activity, you can enjoy swimming, sunbathing on the lakeshore, and witnessing a spectacular sunset over Lake Tanganyika. Dinner will be served at the camp, followed by an overnight stay at Kasekela Suite Tent and Special tent.

Enjoy a morning breakfast at the camp. You will then head out for a half-day chimpanzee trekking experience, allowing for more intimate encounters with these incredible animals. Return to the camp for a hot lunch and then pack your belongings in preparation for your departure from Gombe. After lunch, you will board a boat for a scenic journey back to Kigoma. Upon arrival in Kigoma, you will be transferred directly to the Sunset Visita Hotel for check-in. Late in the evening, you will have the opportunity to visit the historical Dr. Livingstone Museum, which chronicles the explorer's life and connection to the region. You will also visit the MV Liemba, one of the oldest passenger ships still operating in the world, built by the Germans in the early 20th century. Dinner can be enjoyed at a local restaurant of your choice or at the hotel. Overnight stay at Sunset Visita Hotel.

Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel. You will then be transferred to Kigoma Airport to catch your flight to Dar es Salaam, marking the end of your Gombe safari adventure.

What should I wear and bring for chimpanzee trekking?

Comfortable walking shoes, long trousers, long-sleeved shirts, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, binoculars, a camera with a zoom lens, and a water bottle are recommended. Neutral-colored clothing is advisable.

How close will we get to the chimpanzees?

While your guide will ensure a respectful distance, you may get quite close to the chimpanzees as they are habituated to human presence. It's crucial to follow your guide's instructions at all times.

Is chimpanzee trekking guaranteed?

While sightings are very high, they cannot be 100% guaranteed as the chimpanzees are wild animals and their movements can be unpredictable. However, the experienced guides have a high success rate in locating them.

Are there any age restrictions for chimpanzee trekking?
