Trip Itinerary

Arrive in Tanzania via Kilimanjaro International airport (JRO) or anyotherairport whereby Miwaleni travel staff will pick you up and transfer to Arusha town where you will spend the first night at African tulip in Arusha http://www.theafricantulip.com

Accommodation: Bed, breakfast

Your safari will start today with the drive to Tarangire National; Park, Tanzanian third largest national park and sanctuary for large elephants. Majestic big baobab trees are the interested and unique of the park; dwarf and the small animals that feed beneath them give awesome view. Sometimes animals concentrate along the Tarangire River, which provides the only permanent water supply in the area. The wild area has great diversity of wildlife including Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs and buffalos. Expected half day game drives in the park with lunch and overnight at Bougainvillea safari lodge http://bougainvilleasafarilodge.com

Accommodation: Bed, breakfast Lunch and Dinner

After breakfast you drive to Ngorongoro gate and descent into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with picnic lunch) within Ngorongoro Crater the world Heritage site and one of the natural wonders of the world holding a permanent population of more than 30,000 animals. It’s very unique that only very few of those animals  migrate in and out of crater with its 2000 ft, high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. The crater is also home of the rare black rhino almost extinct in Tanzania and with a bit of lack and with a bit of luck plus our best guidance and experience you will see the “Big Five” during the game drive and late back to overnight at Bougainvillea safari lodge http://bougainvilleasafarilodge.com

Accommodation: Bed, breakfast Lunch and Dinner

Today you will start in the morning your guide will pick you and we will drive to Lake Manyara National Park which takes about 3,5 hour. The park offers a mosaic of vegetation habitats which can sustain a high density of wildlife.  Its ground water forest which acts like a giant filtering sponge which gradually releases water so it can flow gently into streams, instead of running off, prevents the soil from eroding.  From its high concentrations of animals such as elephant, buffalo and antelopes to its dense forests of Trichilia spp, ficus spp and Acacia spp, the park is diverse with both wildlife and vegetation.  With its location at the base of the east African rift valley along the Gregory rift, it offers spectacular viewing of the escarpment. Lake Manyara is one of those national parks which offer rich and diverse game viewing within a reasonably small area. From its thick ground water forest at the park entrance to its more arid acacia woodland in the south.  It is one of the best areas for elephant viewing and close encounters are very common. The bird life here is also exceptional.  Because of its thick brush and forested areas, viewing of Big Cats is not so common and late will drive direct to Kilimanjaro airport and arrive there 2 hours before the time to catch your final flight to fly back home .

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is the best time of year to take this safari?

This safari visits Tarangire National Park, Ngorongoro Crater, and Lake Manyara National Park. Generally, the dry season (June to October) is considered the best time for wildlife viewing in these parks as animals congregate around water sources, and the vegetation is less dense. However, the green season (November to May) offers lush landscapes, fewer tourists, and excellent birdwatching opportunities. Your trip falls during the end of the dry season, which is ideal for game viewing.

What should I pack for this safari?

Pack lightweight, comfortable clothing in neutral colors (khaki, green, brown, tan) to blend in with the environment and avoid attracting tsetse flies (which are attracted to dark blue and black).

  • Clothing: Long-sleeved shirts and trousers for sun and insect protection, shorts for warmer parts of the day, a light jacket or fleece for cool mornings and evenings, a rain jacket (especially during shoulder seasons), swimwear (if your lodge has a pool).
  • Footwear: Comfortable walking shoes or sneakers, sandals/flip-flops for the lodge.
  • Essentials: Wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, high-SPF sunscreen, insect repellent (with DEET), toiletries, personal medications, small first-aid kit.
  • Electronics: Camera with a good zoom lens, extra batteries/power bank, memory cards, universal travel adapter (Tanzania uses Type D and G plugs), phone charger, binoculars (highly recommended).
  • Documents: Passport (with at least 6 months validity), visa (if required for your nationality), flight tickets, travel insurance details, vaccination certificates (especially for Yellow Fever if coming from an endemic country).

What are the local customs and etiquette I should be aware of?

Tanzanians are generally warm and friendly. Showing respect for local customs will enhance your experience:

  • Greetings: Always greet people warmly, often with a handshake. "Jambo" (hello) or "Habari" (how are you?) are common Swahili greetings.
  • Respect for Elders: Show deference to elders by greeting them first, using titles like "Mzee" (elder man) or "Mama" (elder woman), and listening attentively.
  • Dress Modestly: Especially in rural areas and towns, dress modestly. Women should generally cover their shoulders and knees. Men should avoid shorts in public.
  • Public Displays of Affection: Avoid overt public displays of affection.
  • Eating: When sharing meals, use your right hand if eating without utensils. It's polite to accept offered food and beverages.
  • Photography: Always ask for permission before taking photos of people.
  • Tipping: Tipping is not mandatory but highly appreciated. Guidelines: 5-10% in restaurants (if service not included), $5-10 per person per day for safari guides and drivers.

What about health and safety on safari?

Your safety is a priority. Your safari guide is highly experienced and knowledgeable.

  • Stay in the Vehicle: Always remain inside the safari vehicle unless explicitly instructed by your guide that it's safe to exit at designated areas.
  • Maintain Distance: Never approach or feed wildlife. Observe animals from a safe distance.
  • Hydration & Sun Protection: Drink plenty of bottled water and use high-SPF sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect against the strong sun.
  • Malaria: Tanzania is a malaria risk area. Consult your doctor about anti-malarial medication. Use insect repellent, especially during dawn and dusk. Most lodges have mosquito nets.
  • Vaccinations: Consult your doctor or a travel clinic well in advance regarding recommended vaccinations (e.g., Yellow Fever, Typhoid, Hepatitis A/B).
  • Personal Safety: In cities, be aware of your surroundings, avoid walking alone at night, and take licensed taxis. Keep valuables secure and out of sight.
  • Follow Guide's Instructions: Always listen carefully to your safari guide's instructions; they are there to ensure your safety and provide the best wildlife viewing experience.
