Overview
Mount Meru is the second-highest mountain in Tanzania at a height of 4,565 meters (14,977 ft) and is the eighth highest mountain in Africa. It is the topographic centerpiece of Arusha National Park. Its fertile slopes rise above the surrounding savanna and support a forest that hosts diverse wildlife, including nearly 400 species of birds, and also colobus monkey, buffalos, and Giraffe.
Tour Highlights
Departure and Return Place: Moshi Town to Mount Meru Gate and then back to Kilimanjaro International Airport (Google Map)
Departure Time: Please be ready by 8:15 AM for a prompt departure at 9:30 AM.
Return Time: Approximately 1:30 PM on the last day.
Dress Code: Casual. Comfortable athletic clothing, hiking shoes, hat, cold weather jacket, gloves, pants, and spare clothing.
Accommodation: Two nights of accommodations based on Bed and Breakfast at 3 stars hotel (upgrades on request).

Itinerary
Arrival in Tanzania
upon arrival to Kilimanjaro international airport , you will be collected by one of our staff at Kilimanjaro airport for transfer to your hotel as per the programme booked . after some rest at the hotel your head guide will meet you for your briefing , gear check and arrange for you to hire any equipment you may need.
Day 1 : Arusha – Meriakamba Hut (Full board)
We depart Moshi for Momella Gate in Arusha National Park for the necessary formalities before beginning our trek. The hiking trail begins in open grassland with an armed ranger as the possibility of seeing wildlife – giraffe, zebras, antelope, elephant and buffalo – is high. We’ll continue on with our climb through the rainforest until we reach the Miriakamba Huts which is situated in a grassy forest glade
Day 2 : Saddle Hut (Full board)
We continue climbing through the rainforest until we enter the heath zone accompanied by giant heather and other moorland vegetation. Along the ridge of the saddle, we have views of Mount Meru Crater and the Ash Tray. After you’ve made it to the Saddle Hut, you have the option to hike to the top of Little Mount Meru which offers superb view from the top and also help your body better acclimatize itself.

Day 3 : Summit Day (Full board)
Very early in the morning (around midnight), we begin our climb to the summit. The trail is steep to Rhino Point and then Cobra Point. The path continues along the ridge of ash and rock to the summit – Socialist Peak. From here, magnificent views of the Kilimanjaro are on offer and you’ll also be able to witness the sunrise before returning back to Miriakamba Hut. Saddle Huts to Summit

Day 4 : Momella Gate
On our last day, we descend quickly through the tropical rainforest to Momella Gate. At the base of the mountain, Youth Adventures vehicle will meet us and drive us back to the hotel in Moshi. Miriakamba Huts to Momella Gate

When does the tour start?
Safari starts at 10 am (Unless advised otherwise by Safari)
How many hours will I trek each day?
Hiking ours base on your hiking experience and the chosen pace by your guides but on most of the routes, you will hike for approximately 4 to 7 hours.
Do you arrange airport pick up & Drop off?
Sure!!, we do arrange private and groups pickups and transfers to and from the airport even when clients arrive in different time.Our transfer cars are excellent.Send us your request to Safari with your flight info.
Who are your operators in Tanzania?
We are. We are not agents for anybody, but run the treks ourselves through our own registered Tanzanian local company.
What travel documents do I need?
This is also ver important qn.You need a passport that is valid at least six months beyond your dates of travel with an entry or re-entry visa, duly endorsed.
What about solar protection?
Our country Tanzania is amongst the countries that are very near to the equator and so the sun is always at hot in most of the day which can cause sunburns and sunstroke. So we recommend you to wear a Sun hat and use SPF sunblock lotion.We do send recommendations of how to wear before arriving to Tanzania so you pang park well.
What kind of experience do I need?
None really, but previous hiking or climbing experience will help. You probably need to be fit and healthy and have a good pair of worn-in hiking boots. The fitter you are the more you are likely to enjoy the adventure.
How long is the hike?
We have at least six routes to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro or Uhuru peak.The hike will be between 53 and 73km depending on the chosen route.
The shortest and toughest route is the 5-days Umbwe route and the longest can be 8 days or 9 days Lemosho route.Allowing extra days on the mountain will help you acclimate better to improve your chances of reaching the Uhuru peak(summit). There is the easiest and most popular route is on kilimanjaro which Marangu that can be done in five days or six days for this route for those who wish.
What will I eat – I am a vegetarian?
You will eat normal food: potatoes, rice, pasta, vegetables, eggs, sandwiches, cheese, and fruit. When you book a trek, let your tour operator know about food allergies or medical conditions that require special diets. Non-vegetarians will be served sausages, chicken, and meat. Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate will be available as well.
Do we tip the hiking crew?
Yes, it is expected and much appreciated. Although this depends on culture but it’s taken as a gift by the supporting crew and it has been like their culture.Please tip the crew directly.The amount depends on the number of days.Thus shouldn’t kick your brain as we do send recommendations. Tips are pooled and shared amongst the crew.

I would like to book but I have group is large group, is this a problem?
Having a large group is not a problem.We are experienced in working with large groups up to 25 people and we make sure everything is well organized.If you are a solo, private group, then we will accommodate you and whatever the size of the group, as, of course.If you are joining an existing group you will be aware before arriving in Tanzania of the number of people you will be trekking with or going to Safari with.
